Lecture & Leadership Program

The Global Education Association and professors from Illinois Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Chicago and Northern Illinois University are pleased to offer the Lecture and Leadership Program for Professors. This is a four-week classroom program in Chicago, with an optional additional week of travel.

Course Abstract

In this program participants learn lecture and presentation skills, while improving their spoken English. They also attend lectures on school administration and leadership, such as International Student Development and Academic Department Management. In addition students will learn about American business topics, such as corporate management and small business ownership. These lectures are delivered by college and university administrators and faculty, an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank, the president of a small technology company, and an executive vice president of a large advertising firm.

Improving English skills is a key component in this program.  To facilitate this, classes are divided into small groups to encourage general conversation. Additionally, students are required to plan and deliver presentations in English.

Throughout the program the participants will tour locations of interest in Chicago - including museums, universities, business centers, and places of historical importance. At the end of the program, there is an optional one week tour of the United States. Students will visit Washington DC, New York City, and Los Angeles California, where they will see some of the most famous sights in America.

English Improvement Detail
To improve the students English skills, GEA has developed a unique approach. Participants are divided into groups of five or six and each group is assigned a weekly Activities Specialist. The Specialist acts as a tour guide and English tutor for the group, helping to improve each participant’s speaking and listening skills. Each week the groups receive a new Activities Specialist.

With their Activities Specialist, the groups will tour important Chicago locales, visiting a site within each of these areas of interest:  business, universities, museums, history, and architecture. These tours allow students to practice their English with many different Americans, while teaching them something about the culture of America. Activities Specialists are encouraged to bring friends and family with them on the tours so that the students meet and converse with as many native English speakers as possible.
